Happy Mail & a Chicken Bag

Happy Mail is always such a treat. I’ve been eyeing some of these prints for a while now and finally found them to add to my ever growing stash. These fat quarters are all the way from the UK and with the snail mail postal rates at the moment, I feel like I’ve been waiting for ever, but they finally arrived. YAY!

I’ve also spoilt myself to some new hand quilting threads in different colours. DMC Perle no.8 is one of my favourites for hand quilting, and I’m super excited to try out some more colours other than my usual coffee brown. I’m particularly loving that cornflower blue and that seawater green, So pretty.

I’ve been admiring this chicken stitchery from Aneela Hoey’s book sweet stitches and decided to take the plunge and buy the book. I stitched up the sweet hooded chicken right away. It’s been the first embroidery project I’ve done in quite a while and I really enjoyed it. I think I’ll have to do more.

I started the stitchery with no idea what I was going to make and then one thing led to another and she slowly turned into a little drawstring pouch. I of course added the bunting first, then it all just went from there.

I picked some trimmings that I knew I wanted in there somewhere, like the strawberry, scallop lace from Rose Garden patchwork.

I used Aneela’s fabric line posy, because I felt it went so well with this little chick, she is featured in the fabric after all, it also so sweet, I just couldn’t resist.

I really enjoyed the process of adding all the small details.

The little tag to the side.

A faux leather handmade tag at the bottom

and a label made from felt and cotton tape to the back.

I also experimented with some hand quilting on the back in some pretty minty green Aurifloss and I am so glad I did. It just pops so well with the purple.

I really like using cord stoppers lately, so I added some pink wax cord and a sweet cloudy pink cord stopper for the pull, which I also got from Rose Garden patchwork. Lisa has some of the best trims.

until next time, happy Sewing, Kellie X.
