Rainbow Appliqué Pouch

Oh how I love pretty fabric, and sweet rainbows.

As you can probably guess by now, I love raw edge Appliqué and my latest appliqué pattern was inspired by my need to use a better array of colours in my sewing. Not just my usual pink, aqua and yellow. I’m particularly loving orange and purple and green now too, but of course they need to be in the perfect pastel shade.

So, in my desire to play with pretty colours and rainbows, this sweet rainbow appliqué was created. I’ve had the pattern drawn up for a while now, it’s the same one I used on the front of my latest Flora Supply Case (that I haven’t shared yet, oops!), but the gorgeous bundle above inspired me to make a sunshine and rainbow pouch, because those little suns are so stinking cute. I wanted this pouch to feel particularly summery (if that’s even a word), so I used a tiny Japanese cherry print to appliqué the rainbow on and as the main print of the pouch.

I always like to add something special to the back of my pouches, so I fussy cut one of those sweet suns and made a tag for the back, stuck it onto the pink fabric (with heat and bond) for an extra pop of colour and stitched around the edges of both fabrics.

Such a fun and simple way to add a little something extra to any patchwork project.

I decided to round the bottom of this pouch for something different, than the usual square. And a piece of long pink gingham ribbon made the perfect zipper pull.

I did make another rainbow zipper pull from the off cuts of my rainbow appliqué, but I decided to go with the gingham in the end.

I do adore this little rainbow ornament/zipper pull and it was so fun to make, I can see plenty of different designs in the future. Such a quick and satisfying little project.

If you want to use my Rainbow applique for your own projects, you can find the pattern template in my Etsy store.

If you do make a rainbow project, I’d love to see and share so please tag me on either Facebook or Instagram.
